Life Above the 12 Pound Mark

Give me an "A"! Give me an "S"! Give me an "H"! Give me an "L"! Give me a "Y"! Give me an "N"! What does that spell? ASHLYN!!! Hooray for me! After 6 months of life, I've finally passed the 12lbs mark for a 2nd time! This time I'm hoping to stay healthy so I can fatten up, kind of like I was before Christmas, and before getting sick. All my cousins and Aunts & Uncles were rooting for me and I finally did it! I'm still well below the normal curve for babies my age, but instead of my line going horizontal the past month or so, it's finally taken a turn upwards! Dr. Okey was delighted to see my curve moving normally again, and asked mommy what she did. Mom said she didn't do much except feed me rice cereal and baby food more often, and I actually like it! Veggies are my favorite, fruit is a distant second. Officially I weighed in at 12lbs 6oz and measured 24 1/2 inches. However to every good thing there's an opposite, and in this case, it's against my poor mommy. Since they found microscopic amounts of blood in my stool when conducting all the tests on me, mom hasn't been able to eat dairy products for a couple weeks. This has been torture for her, and I feel bad for her, but it's been good for me! I might be allergic to the milk protein from all the dairy she used to eat. I guess it can get into her breast milk. Hopefully she can have it again in the near future, as long as it doesn't affect me to badly. Check out the secret to my most recent success:

Ashlyn May: Sitting, Rolling, Eating Toes & Still Shrinking?

Yup, all the above are true fortunately and unfortunately. Mommy timed me sitting up all by myself for about 15 seconds or so before I lost my balance. I've also been able to roll over all of a sudden. Mom and Dad don't know what to say, just one day they stuck me on my belly and whoop, I was on my back. Dad wasn't able to catch any of my amazing feats on camera, though he did get some of the tail end of things when I was getting more tired. Also, I've grown quite fond of my monkey toes, they taste pretty good. Mom thinks it's pretty funny, while dad is just amazed at my flexibility since he can't even touch his toes!! Oh yeah, and the last thing is true as well. At my last doctor's appointment I had lost an ounce, so I weigh in a 11lbs 3oz. Doctors are a little worried about me since I should be more like 14 lbs. I also had to go to the hospital and have more tests done on me too. They took 9cc's of blood out of me to test, not to mention the fact it took 3 sticks to get that much out! I also had to have urine and dookie tests done as well. No results yet, but hopefully by next week we'll have something. Ashlyn May... 4 Months Old & Shrinking?

Though I'm obviously still cute as a button, I have taken a few steps back as of weight gain lately. At my 4 month check-up I only weighed in at just over 11 pounds. The nurse said I should be closer to 14 lbs at my age, so she wanted to see me again in a week. Well, mommy took me in a week later and unfortunately I had dropped weight again. My most current weight: 10 lbs 12 oz. My doctor, Dr. Okey, told mom to try feed me formula after breast feeding and maybe that would help. The problem with that however, I don't do bottles. I'm all natural if you know what I mean. So mom has a syringe she can use if I won't suck on the bottle. I'm slowly learning, but not with a lot of progress. Mom and dad have also started me on some solid food, well rice cereal anyways if you can call that solid. So far I've only had it once, and I have mixed reviews. Let's just say the jury is still out on that one. Look at me pretty-o on my video...

Buddha, Buddha, Buddha, Buddha, Rockin' Everywhere!!!!

The first week of this New Year, I met my very first Tang cousin!! His name is Andersen, and he's one chunky fellow if you ask me! Daddy calls him little Buddha because he's so chubby and happy. He tips the scales at almost double my weight!! I'm a dainty little 11.5 pounds, while at last I heard Andersen was 20+ pounds! I also met my uncle Andrew and Auntie Liew. They both thought I was such a lightweight when they held me, they said they couldn't even remember Andersen being my size. Uncle Andrew, Auntie Liew and Andersen only stayed for a couple of nights. They were going to a wedding in Salt Lake City, but took some time out of their week to drive down to Junction to visit! We had a good time, even though there's nothing to do in GJ. I guess one cool thing was to go to Daddy's work so they could watch a live newscast. Everybody likes to watch the weatherman point at a green or blue screen in the studio, whereas he looks like he's doing it over weather graphics on TV. Unfortunately all good times have to end, and the new Tang trio I met had to go. We still had a good time, and Andersen did some pretty funny things while he came to visit, like playing with my toys (or trying to), playing with each other, laughing, and he even rolled over right on my living room floor for the first time that anybody has witnessed!! Christmas 2006 - Yucaipa, CA

For this year's Christmas, mom and dad took me to see Grandpa and Grandma Horspool and the rest of my aunts/uncles and cousins in Southern California. Dad saved up all his vacation time and blew it all in one family vacation!! What a guy! No wonder he, I mean people, call him the man. Some of the highlights from my trip was to fly on an airplane for the very first time! I didn't even cry during take off or landing. Just sat there as sweet as can be, because that's how I roll!! Also, despite the fact there was no snow when we arrived, we still tried to do some Christmasy things. We went to the LDS Temple in Los Angeles where they had the whole property lit up. I loved the lights! Daddy thought it was C-R-A-Z-Y that people in California hung lights on palm trees though. Being from Canada, he's used to coniferous trees. It was still cool to see the lights though. I guess it's good that I get an early exposure to these types of things so I'm not as confused as my old man is when I grow up. We also visited Hollywood Boulevard and that was pretty fun as well. On Christmas eve Santa came to visit!! He brought all the little children presents, but didn't bring any of the mommies and daddies gifts. I guess they weren't very good this year, so hopefully they'll learn from this experience. Santa brought me a tan jacket, and if I may, I make that jacket look pretty stinkin' good. When Christmas morning came, dad couldn't get over the fact that it was 85 degrees farenheit at 9am. He didn't know what to do with himself without a white Christmas!! We all helped him pull through his dilemma. I didn't quite get as excited as the other kids about Christmas presents, I pretty much took a nap and woke up after everyone had opened them up. However, I did do something new during our trip. Grandma found out that I'm very ticklish on my thighs. I think she enjoyed tickling me as much as I enjoyed being tickled. Check it out...



Well, in a nutshell that was my 1st Christmas experience. For New Year's I did about the same stuff I did for Christmas. Slept. So did Grandpa. Next Christmas we'll see what happens though. Like always, feel free to check out all the pictures of my 1st Christmas in the Photo Albums link!!!

Knoebel Sweater Party 2006

Though I'm posting it a month later, the 2nd annual sweater party took place in Provo, Utah in December of 2006 and was hosted by the Nate and Mandy Knoebel. Last year 8 of us took place in the festivities, but Nate and Mandy wanted to go big, and recruited 26 people (or something like that) to participate. We began the night by meeting at the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner and then went to Nate and Mandy's where we had cookies, hot chocolate, egg nog (which the Knoebel's accidentally didn't serve) and even had a white elephant gift exchange. Some of those gifts were pretty funny and creative. (Ashlyn gave Molly Thatcher a tortilla warmer and a bag of tortilla's that don't fit in the warmer!). The night also featured a worst joke contest, and you can see them below on the video. Be warned though, it's a bad joke contest. The jokes are bad. Enjoy.
