Oh Boy!

Today I had my "half-way point" ultrasound. And if you can't tell by the title, this picture says it loud and clear. Just follow the arrow.
That's right my friends. Jason successfully put the stem on the apple. They gave us a ton of pictures, and even did a few of the 3-D kind. Here is his little face.

Now all we need is a name. Any suggestions?

We are Family

Even though her biological Aunties and Uncles are thousands of miles away, we don't want Ashlyn to forget them. Here she is practicing their names:

Sleeping on the Job

The other day Jason called me while I was at work to tell me Ashlyn had been a very bad girl. When I got home shortly after, this is what I found....

She had colored all over our couch with a ball point pen. He then told me that he couldn't get too mad at her because she got a hold of the pen while he was SLEEPING! That's what he gets for sleeping on the job!

Thankfully our couch is AMAZING and all the ink came out with the use of a few wet wipes. Hooray for microfiber. Besides, how can you stay mad at a face like this?

Dang Carnies....

It was the last weekend in May, and we had made it a goal of getting back on a budget for the month of June, so what better way to celebrate the end of no-responsibilities than by going to the 50th State Fair! The Matt and Melissa McIntosh family came with us, since we knew that they would be just as irresponsible. I mean come on, they're graduating soon and are livin' it up since real life is on the horizon!
The day started out perfectly, The first dollar I spent I won a turtle by popping a balloon with a dart. The last dollar Heather spent, she won a turtle by popping a balloon with a dart.
What happened to the 50 or so bucks in between? That's a different story.
As you can tell by the posts' title, those stinkin' carnival guys can getcha. They getcha everytime. After quite a successful start, we thought we'd be rollin' in those stinkin' stuffed animals by the end of the day, but that was not the case at all. Heather had no luck in the dime toss game,
I couldn't knock a stack of three blocks off a platform, a game I tried too many times by the way. I also couldn't hit a single basketball shot, let alone two which you have to do to win. And I couldn't bust all the teeth out of the monsters mouth on the monster mash.
Plus we both couldn't shoot the red star out of the paper with 100 pellets, although we both were pretty close. I have to say that was our favorite activity of the day.
Luckily, I have a practical and non-gambling addicted wife who paced herself and even stashed coins away for funnel cake and frozen lemonade. Not that 6 bucks for a junky funnel cake is a good deal, but I guess it beats the three softballs I threw at those stupid blocks! I had that game man. Anyways, the worst part of the day had to be the fact that the McIntosh's won five dolls whereas Heather and I only won two (remember? The first and last dollars we spent), and we spent more money on all those rigged games.
Making matters even worse, Matt won this monkey that Ashlyn absolutely loved so Heather said I had to go win one. Approximately seven dollars later, we left empty handed.
The game was a tic-tac-toe game where you had to pop three balloons in a row with three darts. Well, I got two in a row twice, but missed the last one. My old roommates would be ashamed since I was the Yorktown 10 dart master. Oh well, my baby loves me even if I'm a loser.
(but we all know I'm still the man)
Anyways, now it's June and we welcome in responsibility.
Well, at least until the next carnival comes through town.
Here's Heather shooting for your viewing pleasures:

Sleep Walking

So Ashlyn has been falling asleep in random places lately. I'm pretty sure it is because of her refusal to nap most days. The other day, she fell asleep on the couch, and then woke up before she was ready, and then came over to the computer where I was sitting. She was being really grumpy and didn't want me to hold her or anything so I just ignored her. Not long after, she was being really quiet so I turned around to see what she was up to and this is how I found her...

A couple of days later, another napless day, Ashlyn and I were eating dinner. She was chompin' away until she suddenly nodded off and just fell asleep right in her high chair, with the fork and bowl still on her hands!

It was Spaghetti, and she was a mess, so I was going to bathe her whether she woke up for it or not. I filled up the tub, and then came back to get her ready. As soon as I took off her shirt, she woke up just enough to take a bite of her toast, and then back to dreamland.

Snowbirds in Hawaii

Anybody recognize this family?

Yup, it's the Don and Sue Sommerfeldt clan from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada! Well, at least what's left of the single folk. They came to Hawaii for a vacation, and we randomly saw them at church! Ok, that's not quite accurate, their son Mark is one of my best friends and former roommates at BYU, and in an out of the blue conversation we were having, he told me his family was here on Oahu staying at Jack Payne's condo. Well, I searched for them at church and found them! And a good thing too, because they took us out to dinner!! Bubba Gump's is the place we dined and it was delicious! We also met up with them on their last day in paradise and hiked up Diamond head and got some Malasadas at Leonards. It was great to see them, and hopefully we'll have more encounters with distant friends in the near future!

Maui Chinese Food?

One day a mysterious package showed up at our door addressed to a "Mr. Jason Q Tang of Maui Chinese Food" Now this raised my perfectly manicured eyebrows for a variety of reasons. Obviously my middle name doesn't begin with a Q, and what is Maui Chinese food? My middle name is Marshall, and we live on Oahu.
So I open up the package and inside are two brand new knives; a four inch paring knife and larger 7 inch Santoku knife. So who would send me a pair of knives seemingly out of the blue? Well, look no farther than one Desi Taylor of Mesa, Arizona.
You see, while Desi was here visiting us a couple weeks ago, and as Heather blogged, I made the dinner on mother's day. What you didn't hear was that my sous chef wasn't the usual He-May, instead it was Ms. Desi, and her job was simple -- cut up all the vegetables exactly the size and shape I wanted them.

Hopefully you're beginning to put two and two together by now, because Desi might as well have been cutting with a butter knife or a spatula (our knives aren't the sharpest tacks on the wall if you know what I'm sayin').
So to the Taylor family we say Mahalo for the knives, and next time you come hopefully Brittney won't get sick, and our knives will be as sharp as they are today!
